The Arkansas River water level will be lowered beginning Nov. 12 for approximately one week to permit inspection of the east riverbank north of the Douglas Avenue Bridge. Deterioration of the bridge’s metal pilings on the east river bank has been observed above the normal water level. “We need to lower the river so we can assess the condition of the vertical pilings below the normal pool elevation, and determine appropriate repairs and replacement,” says Stan Breitenbach, Special Projects Engineer for the City. “The exposed riverbed will also be surveyed to quantify rock material needed for lateral support.” Back to Top
