The Wichita City Council on Saturday announced three finalists for the Wichita City Manager position and said a City Manager could be named in two weeks.

The three finalists are William Buchanan, the Sedgwick County Manager; Robert Layton, the City Manager of Urbandale, Iowa; and George Noe, the former City Manager of Corpus Christi, Texas. “Each one had significant accomplishments,” said Mayor Carl Brewer who also cited the three finalists’ knowledge of the council-manager form of government. He added that the Council has asked Slavin Consultants, the firm hired to conduct the City Manager search, to provide additional information on the three finalists, going beyond the past seven years of background material already provided.

Buchanan, Layton and Noe emerged from a list of five finalists that included Norton Bonaparte, Jr., the City Manager of Topeka and Floyd Johnson, the executive director of the Community Redevelopment Agency in Riviera Beach, Fla.

The Wichita City Manager oversees 3,100 employees, a $500 million annual budget and a $2.4 billion Capital Improvement Program. The position has been open since George Kolb resigned on Nov. 28. Assistant City Manager Scott Moore serves as interim City Manager.
