Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer and members of the City Council will travel to Orlando, Fl., this week for the annual Congress of Cities and Exposition sponsored by the National League of Cities.

In addition to the Mayor, Council Members Sue Schlapp, Paul Gray and Lavonta Williams will attend all or part of the five-day conference.

The Wichita delegation will join thousands of local officials from across the country who will gather in Orlando to focus on municipal leadership.

The conference, being held November 11-15, will feature general sessions, workshops, Leadership Training Institute seminars, exhibits by municipal vendors, mobile workshops, community service opportunities and social events.

This year’s conference will feature “mini plenaries”, dealing with the mortgage crisis, school reform and the high school dropout crisis, transportation infrastructure and sustainability.

Because of the NLC conference, there will be no weekly Tuesday meeting of the Wichita City Council.
