Designs for the NOMAR International Market site will be presented to the City of Wichita’s Design Council for approval at 11:45 today at CityArts, 334 N. Mead. The NOMAR International Market, which will be located at 21st Street North and Broadway, is one element of the 21st Street Revitalization Plan. It includes a multi-use plaza with lighting, landscaping, decorative brick features and a performance stage, as well as a 1,000-square -foot building, anchored by a tower with Spanish Mission Revival detailing. The building will include office space, public restrooms and an outdoor covered patio. The Market, a joint venture between the NOMAR Community Development Corporation (CDC) and the City of Wichita, will be operated by the CDC as an outdoor cultural market and entertainment venue. “We have been working with the design team for several months, and we are happy with the presentation that the Design Council will see today,” said Anita Mendoza, president of the NOMAR CDC. “We are expecting the site to be completed in time for the 2010 market season.” The project is funded in part by an economic development initiative grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. LawKingdon, Inc. has been contracted by the City to develop the designs for the market plaza. Back to Top
