Free firewood is available from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays through February in the north parking lot of the Sedgwick County Zoo, 5555 Zoo Blvd.

The free firewood is a courtesy of the City of Wichita, Sedgwick County Zoo & Westar Energy. The wood is left over from Westar Energy’s tree trimming line clearance work and City forestry tree pruning and removal operations.

"We are grateful for this partnership that allows us to give the public firewood from park and street tree pruning work,” said Tim Martz Superintendent of Park Maintenance and Forestry. “It also saves the community valuable disposal space at the Brooks Landfill.”

In addition to the free firewood, customers can also pick up wood chips to use as mulch. No sawing will be allowed on zoo property during pickup.
