The following street closures will be in effect starting at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3 for the “A Night with Santa” event: Douglas Avenue, Main Street to McLean Blvd. McLean Blvd., Douglas to 1st/2nd Street Waco, Douglas to 1st Street (Access from 1st Street to the Broadview Hotel) 1st St., Waco to McLean Blvd. Sycamore, approximately 300 feet north of Douglas to McLean Blvd. Century II Drive, from W. Tlalnepantla Dr. to Douglas S. Cancun St., Century II Drive to W. Tlalnepantla Drive N. Civic Center Pl., north side of Douglas Wichita, north side of Douglas Water, north side of Douglas Hosted by Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer and Wichita City Council, “A Night with Santa” runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at Century II. The evening begins outdoors on Kennedy Plaza with the lighting of the Christmas tree, a reading of a “Night before Christmas” by Mayor Brewer and the Youth Council Mayor, the arrival of Santa Claus on a fire truck and a fireworks show sponsored by the Wichita Downtown Development Corp. and the Wichita Federal Credit Union. The indoor event, in the exhibition hall of Century II, will have an array of games and inflatables, letters to Santa, pictures with Santa, prize giveaways, and larger giveaways including 14 decorated Christmas trees, an IPod and a new child’s bike. The event, managed by the Department of Parks and Recreation, is free but donations will be accepted of canned food, hats, gloves and scarves. Preferred cash donations are accepted for the Mayor’s and Kansas Food Bank’s No More Hungry Kids Campaign. Back to Top
