Residents, media encouraged to attend downtown master plan planning sessions Area residents are invited to answer the question “What makes a downtown walkable?” by taking and sharing photographs at “Walk-shop” events this Friday and Saturday. Members of the community and media are invited to attend sessions at the Eaton Block, 523 E. Douglas: From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4 (Walk-Shop A) and From 9 a.m.to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 (Walk-Shop B).A third session, called a “Walk-shop Talk,” will focus on sharing the photographs and initial themes of the two Walk-shop events. It will be followed by breakout discussion sessions with participants on various issues related to creating a more walkable downtown. The third session is also at the Eaton Block: From 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 (Walk-Shop Talk).Participants should register at www.wichitawalkshop.org. Registration is strongly suggested, because space for the sessions is limited. If participants have a cell phone that takes photos or a digital camera, they are encouraged to bring them, although everyone is encouraged to attend. The public is also invited to stop by the Eaton Block during First Friday to view some of the photographs, discuss input and ask questions with downtown planning staff from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4 at the Eaton Block. Additional information on themes from the Walk-Shops will be shared at the Jan. 12 public session, where initial analysis of housing and commercial opportunities will be shared. Back to Top
