Dress warmly for the annual “A Night with Santa” event on Thursday when the forecast calls for temperatures in the 30’s. To help event goers stay warn, the Salvation Army and Red Cross will provide free hot chocolate. Hosted by Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer and Wichita City Council, “A Night with Santa” is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. at Century II. The evening begins outdoors on Kennedy Plaza with the lighting of the Christmas tree, a reading of a “Night before Christmas” by Mayor Brewer and the Youth Council Mayor, the arrival of Santa Claus on a fire truck and a fireworks show sponsored by the Wichita Downtown Development Corp. and the Wichita Federal Credit Union. The indoor event, in the exhibition hall of Century II, will have an array of games and inflatables, letters to Santa, pictures with Santa, prize giveaways, and larger giveaways including 15 decorated Christmas trees in a variety of colors and themes, an IPod and a new child’s bike. The event, managed by the Department of Parks and Recreation, is free but donations will be accepted of canned food, hats, gloves and scarves. Preferred cash donations are accepted for the Mayor’s and Kansas Food Bank’s No More Hungry Kids Campaign. To learn more about th event, including street closures, please go to www.wichita.gov.
