Hillside, between 9th Street and 12th Street, will be reconstructed this winter. Work began this week. One lane of traffic in each direction (north and south) will be maintained during the project, which is expected to be completed in April 2010. The $850,000 project is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), or federal stimulus funds. “Thanks to the ARRA funds, we are able to address street repair needs that otherwise might have been put off indefinitely,” said Lavonta Williams, Wichita City Council Member for District I, which includes the Hillside project. “We may endure a little inconvenience now but it will be worth it in the end.” Other stimulus projects expected to start in early 2010 include: Washington, from 1st to Central; Broadway, from Central to 12th; Hydraulic, from Harry to Kellogg; and Maize Road, from Pawnee to Kellogg.
