City sponsoring outdoor arts and craft fair; vendor applications due soon City of Wichita officials on Tuesday announced a new holiday event, “Holiday on the Plazas.” The outdoor arts and crafts fair will take place in Old Town the two weekends before Christmas in an effort to bring together shoppers, local arts and crafts and food vendors. Booths will be set up in Old Town Square and the Farm & Art Market Plaza from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 11-13 and Dec. 18-20. The first-time event is sponsored by the City of Wichita. “Holiday on the Plazas is a citywide celebration where people can mingle, enjoy the festive atmosphere and support local artists,” Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer said. “Shoppers will find one-of-a-kind gifts and residents and local businesses will benefit from the opportunity to bring in extra revenue this Christmas season.” Old Town Square is located between at 2nd Street and Mead. The Farm & Art Market Plaza is at 1st Street and Mosley. The City plans to hold this outdoor arts and craft fair regardless of weather conditions. There is no cost for vendors to participate in one or both weekends. Applications are available at CityArts, 334 N. Mead. Applications must be returned to CityArts by 5 p.m. on either Thursday, Dec. 10 or Thursday, Dec. 17. There is no application fee. Sales are limited to handmade arts and crafts items. Food and beverages may be sold if vendors have a State of Kansas food license, or if they follow state rules that allow them to participate in six or fewer events a year without a license. In all cases, though, food handler’s permits are required. Vendors will be responsible for providing their own tables, chairs and tents. For more information about Holiday on the Plazas, please contact CityArts staff at 462-2787. Back to Top
