Back by popular demand, the City of Wichita Transit Department has returned with another summer season of Discovery Historic Wichita! Trolley Tours. Beginning Tuesday May 28, the trolley tours will once again celebrate the rich history of the "River City." Step back in time to the days of Carrie Nation and Wyatt Earp. Plus, take in the beauty of the winding Arkansas River to see today’s energy in Exploration Place and the ongoing river projects. The Discover Historic Wichita! guided trolley tours has something for all ages to enjoy.
In addition to the regular trolley tours, four new tours will highlight the city's significant sites. The themed tours include: the Architecture tour, the Church tour, the Museum tour, and the Outdoor Sculpture tour. The Theme tours will run on Thursdays instead of the regular tour and Saturdays at noon in addition to the regular tour. Each tour will follow the particular theme that the name suggests.
All trips begin at the Wichita Boathouse and Visitors Information Center in the heart of the River District, at 335 W. Lewis. Enjoy the scenery of Wichita and relax on the newly purchased replica 19th Century American Heritage Streetcar Trolleys that feature more room and air-conditioning. These fully narrated trips last approximately 1-½ hours and travel by some of Wichita’s most distinguished historic neighborhoods and establishments. Tours run Tuesday – Friday at 10 AM; Saturday 10 AM and noon through August 31. Reservations are requested, but not required. However, the trolleys do fill up, as there is a 27-passenger capacity. Tours are wheelchair accessible. Admission is $10 for adults; $8 for seniors and youth and children under 6 are free of charge. Group tours are available.
