What: Holiday Light Display
When: Dec. 13-29
Where: St. Paul Street
Who: ARC, Wichita Police Department

The holiday season will be welcomed to Wichita on St. Paul Street Friday evening when the Association for Retarded Citizens (Arc), and a number of other community organizations, light up the night on Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, with their annual Christmas Light display. The lights will come on at 6 PM and choirs from Bethany Lutheran Church and School will begin caroling at 7 PM. Santa Claus will be available for those who wish to have their picture taken with him, and several officials from the City of Wichita will also be present.

The light display is on St. Paul Street between Douglas and 2nd Street. Traffic will enter from Douglas Street. This is an annual event and is scheduled to run through Dec. 29, 2002. The hours of operation will be from 6 PM to 9 PM Sunday-Thursday and 6 PM to 10 PM Friday and Saturday.

The event is open to the public; however, donations will be appreciated and all proceeds will go to the Arc. In years past, Arc has used the light display as a fundraiser for their organization by charging admission to view the lights at Watson Park.

Along with the Arc’s huge light display those viewing the event will also see trees decorated by local school children, new displays by businesses, organizations and the Wichita Police Department. On selected nights they will also be able to hear school and church groups singing and playing Christmas music as they drive through the display.

For additional information, contact Officer Richard Mellard, Patrol West 941-0673.
