Media Invited to Weekend Fire Academy
The Wichita Fire Department will host the annual Wichita Hands on Training (HoT) fire school this Saturday and Sunday. More than 200 firefighters from around the region are expected to attend. Media outlets are invited to capture photos and video of the exercises. They may also interview students and instructors. Inquiries should be made to Capt. Robert Dusenbery at 619-6904 or Division Chief Billy Wenzel at 648-4521.
The fourth annual Wichita HoT will kick off at 8 a.m. Saturday morning at Newman University with keynote speaker, Capt. Mike Dugan who has spent 32 years of firefighting experience including 20 years with the New York City Fire Department. Additional Saturday classroom sessions will take place at Newman University.
Sunday sessions will bring participants to the WFD’s Regional Training Facility, 4430 E. 31st Street South, where they will learn techniques in arson investigation, engine company operations, truck company operations, search techniques, and vehicle extrication among others.
“This year, local trainers from the Wichita Fire Department will be joined by several of the nation’s top instructors as they once again deliver the highest quality fire service training available in this part of the country,” Wenzel said. “The mission of this fire school is to provide high quality training to firefighters at a fraction of the cost.”
