Tonight is the final round of public meetings designed to help determine which programs and services should be provided at City of Wichita recreational facilities. Meetings are scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at three facilities listed below. Residents are encouraged to attend, and childcare will be provided.
The public meetings will help shape the future of the Park and Recreation Department after $1 million in budget reductions to the department’s recreation programs. The meetings began last Thursday.
“These meetings will help us develop a plan for providing relevant programs and services at neighborhood recreation centers,” said Doug Kupper, Director of the Department of Park and Recreation.
The public meetings provide background information on each recreation facility and roundtable discussions about which recreation center services should be offered. Topics include classes, building usage, fees, operational hours and new services. Organizers include officials from Wichita State University’s Hugo Wall School of Urban & Public Affairs.
Earlier meetings were held at McAdams Recreation Center, Osage Recreation Center, Linwood Recreation Center, Lynette Woodard recreation Center, Aley/Stanley Recreation Center, Colvin Recreation Center, Evergreen recreation Center. Today’s scheduled meetings follow:
