The Wichita Police Department on Thursday announced upcoming changes to hours of operations in the public lobby areas at neighborhood substations. The new hours take effect on Saturday when lobby hours at the four neighborhood substations change to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
The four police substation lobbies are currently open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. The new hours are the result of a revamped budget process that identified various cost-savings, operational efficiencies and other best practices to better meet needs of residents.
The overnight closure of neighborhood substations will have no impact on public safety or WPD’s response to 911 calls for police services, Police Chief Norman Williams said. Each substation is equipped with an intercom connected to City Hall security and a phone connected directly to 911. The intercom and phone can be used during hours when the lobby areas are closed.
The substations are located at 3015 E. 21st Street North (Patrol North), 211 E. Pawnee (Patrol South), 350 S. Edgemoor (Patrol East) and 661 N. Elder (Patrol West).
