Dancers, sideshow and Vaudeville acts coming to Cowtown
Dr. Dillinger’s Freaks and Floozies performance troupe is hosting “An Evening of Burlesque” at Old Cowtown Museum March 11-12. Both performances begin at 8 p.m. in Cowtown’s Empire House Theatre. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. A limited number of $18 VIP tickets with special seating, a Dr. Dillinger Fun Pack and other amenities are still available for Friday’s show; Saturday’s VIP is sold out. Tickets can be purchased by calling (316) 350-3323 or at Old Cowtown Museum’s Visitor’s Center, 1865 W. Museum Blvd. The event is geared toward adult audiences.
The show’s lineup includes regional burlesque dancer Ilsa the Wolf, the newly formed Wichita Burlesque Troupe, The Ukuladies all-girl ukulele band, comedy and sideshow acts and Vaudeville performances. There will be a cash bar.
This is the first time a burlesque show will be held at Cowtown. The unique style of theater is closely connected to Wichita’s history.
“Many believe Gypsy Rose Lee (for whom the stage musical and film ‘Gypsy’ was based) started her burlesque career in Wichita,” said Cowtown Director David Flask. “Also, theatrical burlesque became popular around the beginning of the Victorian era, making it a perfect fit for Cowtown.”
