The City of Wichita is accepting applications for members of the new Wichita Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board until midnight on Thursday, April 11. The volunteer board, approved by the City Council on Feb. 5, will advise the City on issues related to bicycling and walking in Wichita. The board will provide recommendations to the City Council; participate in planning and project development; evaluate policies; and make recommendations to City departments. It will also play an influential role in implementing Wichita’s Bicycle Master Plan, available at www.wichita.gov.
Board members will serve a two-year term, with the potential to serve four consecutive terms. The board includes membership opportunities for cyclists of all skill levels, from casual weekend riders to year-round commuters; and people of all ages. It is anticipated that the board will meet at City Hall once a month for a period of two hours. The dates and times will be determined by the board at its initial meeting. Board applicants should be aware that additional hours outside of board meetings will be necessary in order to learn more about agenda items and to track projects.
Interested individuals should submit a completed application, available in paper format or online at www.wichita.gov
