New program runs to June 1, encouraging global reading of eBook
The Wichita Public Library invites the public to take part in the Big Library Read, a pilot program in which libraries worldwide offer a single eBook to their cardholders. The program is designed to unite library customers from all around the world into a global “library one-book reading club.”
Through June 1, 2013, anyone with a valid Wichita Public Library card can borrow The Four Corners of the Sky by New York Times bestselling author Michael Malone for free from the Library’s Wichita E-Reads service available through the Library website www.wichita.lib.ks.us
. The book is available on all major e-reading devices.
More than 7,500 libraries in 10 countries from five continents are participating. Readers are invited to join the book discussion on Twitter using #BigLibraryRead.
“The Big Library Read is designed to demonstrate the benefits that making eBooks available through libraries can provide to authors and publishers,” said Sarah Shetlar, the Library’s Collection Management Division Manager. “An added benefit is increasing local awareness of the Library’s growing eBook collection,” Shetlar noted.
The Big Library Read program is sponsored by OverDrive, with initial support and participation from Sourcebooks, Inc., a leading US independent publisher. More information about the Big Library Read is available from http://www.overdrive.com/big-library-read/
