Mayor Carl Brewer and the Wichita City Council on Wednesday thanked local businessman Wink Hartman for his recent efforts to promote the city on a national stage.
Hartman announced through media reports this week that his No. 67 IndyCar Honda will promote Wichita during this weekend’s Iowa Indy Corn 250 race at the Iowa Speedway near Des Moines. The race will be televised on ABC this Sunday.
The race car’s advertising spots will promote GoWichita, the city's convention and visitors bureau and other local organizations.
“I want to express my gratitude for Mr. Hartman’s generosity and his interest in promoting and advancing our city,” Brewer said. “His goal of raising recognition about Wichita is appreciated and admirable. It’s another example of how we’re at our best when we work together.”
Vice Mayor Pete Meitzner said Hartman’s generosity is an endorsement of the city.
“The publicity from the race car ad will promote our city in a positive fashion and reach a large audience,” Meitzner said. “The race will reportedly hit an audience of more than two million people between the race attendance and the television estimates.”
