Wichita Transit is offering free service all day on Friday - the day after Thanksgiving. The day will also mark the first time in recent years the public transit service has operated the day after Thanksgiving, which is traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
The day-after-Thanksgiving service is being reintroduced due to the large number of requests from residents during community engagement meetings and efforts.
“We heard from our residents, we listened,” Wichita Transit Director Steve Spade said. “Now, they will be able to use public transit to kickoff their holiday shopping season.”
The buses will run the regular Saturday schedule on Friday. Following are additional details about Wichita Transit service on Friday.
- The West Maple Route will not go into the airport;
- Paratransit will also operate its normal Saturday schedule (two vans will operate from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.);
- Staff will be on duty to answer calls from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. The public can call 265-7221 for route and schedule information.
