The City of Wichita will participate for the seventh year in the annual Wagonmasters Chili Cook-off. Council Member Pete Meitzner will lead Team Caddyshack at the event from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday near the intersection of Douglas and Emporia.
“We are excited to join the Wagonmasters again for this fun event and to engage the thousands of residents and visitors who will be at the cook-off,” Meitzner said.
Executive Chef Paul Freimuth, of the Hyatt, will serve as the City’s head chef in the “Anything Goes” and “Salsa“ categories. Team members are from the Office of Community Engagement, the Communications Team, Housing and Community Services, the Airport, the Clerk’s Office, the Call Center, and the Security Team. The Mayor’s Youth Council will also be present.
Vice Mayor Jeff Blubaugh, and Council Members James Clendenin, Jeff Longwell, and Janet Miller will also join the event throughout the day. Mayor Carl Brewer and Council Member Lavonta Williams will not be present due to a trip to Ghana and South Africa to explore trade, education, aviation, and government exchange opportunities.
The Wichita Wagonmasters was founded to promote and sell the good life in Wichita. The organization expects the Chili Cook-off to attract 9,000 people to sample the recipes of more than 70 teams from Kansas and surrounding states. The event has existed for 30 years; the Wagonmasters moved the event downtown in 2005.
