Contact: Cynthia Berner, Director of Libraries |

City of Wichita officials today announced that the Westlink and Evergreen branches of the Wichita Public Library will assume service responsibility for customers of Orchard Park branch library, effective Dec. 22.

The service change stems from the Dec. 19 closure of Orchard Park branch. The City’s 2013 Adopted Budget eliminated funding for the library beginning in 2015. This branch resides in the Orchard Recreation Center, 4808 W. 9th St.

The Westlink (8515 Bekemeyer) and Evergreen (2601 N. Arkansas) branches both are a short distance from the Orchard Recreation Center. Also, Wichita Transit service is available to assist Orchard users reach the Evergreen and Westlink libraries. Residents of this area may pick up information and maps at Orchard Recreation Center. Real time bus location, route maps and schedules can be found at www.wichitatransit.org.

Westlink and Evergreen provide large collections of books and media as well as free internet service, public computing stations, technology training classes, and programming for children, teens and adults.

Through March 2015, Library customers will be able to return materials at the Orchard Recreation Center book drop.

The Wichita Park & Recreation department will expand recreational programming into the vacated Orchard space through additional Yoga and special interest classes. Staffers also are exploring keeping materials available for reading in the space when classes are not in session. The space will also be available for rent and for community meetings beginning in spring of 2015.
