9-year-old taking ride on Wichita fire truck today
The holidays may be over, but Santa Claus has one more gift to give nine-year-old Sophie Kiryk. Today she will take a ride on a Wichita fire truck, the grand prize she received in the Letters to Santa Project sponsored by the City of Wichita, Starkey Inc. and Cambridge Market. Media are invited to meet Kiryk at 2 p.m. when she arrives at the Wichita Fire Department Station 6, located at 1010 N. 143rd. St. E.
Kiryk was one of 1,300 area children who sent their 2014 holiday wishes to the North Pole via special Santa mailboxes inside Century II, CityArts, the Mid-America All-Indian Center, Cowtown, Starkey Inc. and Cambridge Market. Every child who dropped off a letter received a response from Santa as well as an automatic entry in a gift giveaway. Letter writers were picked at random to receive prizes.
The Letters to Santa project is a way for the City of Wichita and its partners to spread holiday cheer. The initiative just completed its fifth year.
