Wichita Eisenhower National Airport’s new terminal is scheduled to open on Wednesday, with first departures scheduled for 5 a.m. (American), 5:20 a.m. (United) and two departures at 6 a.m. (Delta and Southwest).
Gov. Sam Brownback and Mayor Jeff Longwell are scheduled to attend and make remarks at 9:15 a.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled at 9:45 a.m. for the first arriving flight. The event schedule may adjust if there are flight delays.
Media should arrive at 4 a.m. to interview passengers leaving on the first departing flights. Gate passes will be available at the United ticket counter. Journalists must have a photo ID and no prohibited items in their possession. Parking will be available in Lot C, across from Airport Police & Fire building.
The $200 million terminal project, which was funded with airport-generated revenue, includes a new Parking Garage and Rental Car Center, which opened last week. The four-level parking garage offers 1,200 stalls, with 800 under cover, and includes covered crosswalks which take travelers to and from the new terminal. The new Rental Car Center, which contains the customer service counters for all 9 agencies, is located adjacent to the garage. Rental car pickup and drop-off will now be inside on the first level of the parking structure.
