The 8th annual Bob Martz Benefit Golf Tournament is scheduled for 12 p.m. Friday, June 19 at Auburn Hills Golf Course, 443 S. 135th St. West. The golf tournament is a four-person scramble event; registration is still open; deadline to register is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17 at any of the five city courses.
The tournament commemorates the public service of late Councilmember Bob Martz, who represented District V, home to Auburn Hills. Martz served on the Council from 1999 to 2007. During his tenure, he played a key role in the planning and creation of Auburn Hills, which Golf Week Magazine has recognized as one of the top five public courses in Kansas.
Tournament entry fee is $85 per person. Golf carts, driving range access, lunch and gift bags will be provided, along with prizes for flighted competition. Participants also receive a free 18-hole gift certificate at any of the five Wichita Public Golf Courses. A pizza party and awards presentation follows the tournament. Select hole contests with prizes for the winners will be available in multiple locations on the course.
Registration and lunch begin at 11 a.m. Proceeds from the tournament support the Bob Martz Scholarship Fund and the Hook-A-Kid-On-Golf program, which is designed to introduce the game to youth in Wichita. Growing the numbers of youth that participate in golf is a key goal of Wichita Public Golf Courses. Also, donations for hole sponsorships in support of the Wichita Junior Golf Foundation scholarship are available for $250. Sponsors will be identified in tee-box signs and recognized in marketing on Cox Cable Channel 7. For more information, please contact Shana Appelhanz at 268-4645.
