Douglas Avenue is identified in the Project Downtown master plan as Wichita's "postcard avenue." Douglas Avenue is the address of Wichita's most important places including Old Town - a 2008 Great Neighborhood awarded by the American Planning Association. Also, the Q-Line Trolley provides free, quick, and easy access to all that Douglas Avenue has to offer, including Historic Delano, Downtown Wichita, and the Douglas Design District.
In the past few years, more than $280 million in development projects have occurred along Douglas Avenue, including River Vista, The Douglas, Union Station, Uptown Landing and Kansas' only four diamond hotel, The Ambassador. Placemaking along Douglas Avenue is in full bloom with the Flowers on Douglas project, Gallery Alley, PARK(ing) Day, the Sculpture Walkabout, and Avenue Art Days.
The design of Douglas Avenue aims to make the street a vibrant and distinctive walking corridor that supports surrounding land uses and helps tie different parts of the Great Place together.
