Child Care Licensing - Protecting Children...Preserving Their World

The Child Care Licensing staff evaluates, investigates and educates Child Care facilities and providers in Licensed Day Care Homes, Group Licensed Day Care Homes, Child Care Centers, Preschools and School Age Programs in Wichita, and throughout Sedgwick County. This program's responsibility is to ensure the local City of Wichita and Sedgwick County Ordinances, Kansas State Laws, and the Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE) regulations are met so that all children are safe and healthy in out-of-home child care.

Child Care Licensing staff also investigates complaints of unregulated child care or complaints of unsafe or non-compliant conditions in regulated facilities. This program does not regulate Foster Care or other programs that operate 24 hours a day.

On August 20, 2019, Wichita City Council approved to increase Child Care Licensing Fees by 20%.  This fee will affect initial and annual licensing inspections, KDHE compliance checks and all substantiated complaints.  City Council also approved a curriculum incentive for licensed providers who integrate developmental activities into their daily services.  The incentive allows a 10% fee increase, in lieu of 20%, to providers who implement a curriculum.
