Schweiter, Schweiter East and Sunnyside neighborhoods in southeast Wichita formed a coalition known as the Tri S, which came together to improve conditions throughout the area. The national organization AARP provided several grants and direction to set priorities and make improvements.
One of the priorities was the creation of a new park at the north end of the Sunnyside neighborhood at Kellogg Drive, between Estelle and Volutsia. AARP provided several grants to create and construct a neighborhood park with several amenities.
