Required Experience and
Training
Must be 21
years of age or older. Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas drivers
license. Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certification. A
ten-year background investigation, police records check, driver’s
license check, and polygraph test will be conducted prior to offers of
employment. Offers of employment will be made contingent upon passing a
physiological evaluation and a physical examination, which will include
drug screening. Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Training Requirements
Law
Enforcement: Training will be conducted by the Wichita Police
Department at the Wichita / Sedgwick County Law Enforcement Training
Center for approximately 28 weeks. Required training to maintain
certification as a law enforcement officer is accomplished at Wichita
Mid-Continent Airport.
Structural Fire Fighting: Training will be conducted by the
Wichita Fire Department at its training academy for approximately 10
weeks.
Aircraft Fire Fighting: Training will be conducted by Airport
Public Safety on Wichita Mid-Continent Airport property; it includes
extinguishing aircraft fuel fires. Officers are required to attend
training for aircraft fire fighting and rescue in FAA certified courses
located in Texas.
Airport Operations: Training will be conducted by Airport Public
Safety on Wichita Mid-Continent and Jarbara Airports. This includes;
familiarization with Federal Aviation Administration rules and
regulations, training in laws and regulations to insure a safe aviation
environment, public relations oriented to the traveling public and
tenants, operation of computer systems monitoring personnel and the
airport environment.
Emergency Medical Care: Required training will be provided by
Airport Public Safety. The specified level of training is First
Responder. An Emergency Medical Technician incentive program is
available for officers desiring to improve their skills. Certification
must be maintained after program completion. Paid recertification
training is provided at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport.
Environment
Airport Public
Safety is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week using a force of 30
officers and mandatory staffing requirements. There are three shifts
each working a schedule of 24 hours on duty and 48 hours off duty. Each
shift is divided into three components: 7am to 4pm, 4pm to 12am and 12am
to 7am. Each officer is required to work two components and rest the
third component.
Candidate Qualifications
Age: All
applicants must be at least 21 years of age at the time of employment. A
certificate of birth must be furnished when accepted as a candidate for
employment.
Citizenship: Applicants must be citizens of the United States.
Any papers necessary to prove citizenship must be furnished when
accepted as a candidate for employment.
Military Status: Ex-servicemen/women are required to furnish a
copy of form DD214 when accepted as a candidate for employment.
Education: Applicants must be a high school graduate or possess a
G.E.D. certificate. A transcript must be furnished when accepted as a
candidate for employment.
Residence: All Airport Safety Officers are required to meet the
residence requirements established by the City of Wichita and have a
telephone at their residence.
Character: Records are checked both locally and with the FBI.
Applicants with any felony conviction(s) cannot be considered. The
applicant must not have been convicted of a crime equivalent to a felony
under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. A candidate must pass a
psychological evaluation administered by a designated person or company.
Fingerprints: All persons accepted as a candidate for employment
will be fingerprinted. A search of local, state and national fingerprint
files will be conducted to determine whether the applicant has a
criminal record.
License: All applicants must possess a current Kansas driver’s
license at the time of employment. A minimum Class B will be obtained
and maintained after employment.
Physical: No physical or mental condition must adversely affect
applicants. A physical agility test is required prior to employment. A
candidate must pass a physical examination administered by a designated
physician after selection. |
