Distinguishing Features of Work
This is an
entry-level position in which proficiency shall be developed in the
protection of life and/or property through enforcement of laws,
ordinances, rules and regulations; provides medical services; airport
operations duties; aircraft and other fire suppression and related
duties. Direct work assignments, instructions and evaluations are
provided by supervisors who review work methods and results through
observations, reports, inspections and discussion.
Examples of Work
Performed

Answer calls
and complaints received by radio, telephone, or in person involving
emergency, disorder and crime.

Interview
persons with complaints or inquiries, takes statements and tends to
proper disposition of the information or directs them to proper
authorities.

Conducts
preliminary investigations, gathers evidence and locates witnesses.

Makes arrests
and/or transports prisoners for booking and incarceration.
-
Appears in
court to present evidence and/or testify as required.
-
Enforces
traffic and parking ordinances.
-
Enforces or
causes to be enforced Federal Aviation Regulations relevant to airport
operations and security.
-
Responds to
public disturbances or nuisance.
-
Protects
against unauthorized access to restricted security areas.
-
Response to
commercial passenger screening area as required.
-
Responds to
aircraft and other related fire emergencies.
-
Responds to
medical problems and emergencies.
-
Provides
information and assistance in a courteous manner to airport tenants,
operators and the public as needed.

Advises
appropriate authorities through established procedures of problems
related to public safety and scrutiny of the airport(s).

Inspects,
records and reports through established procedures any discrepancies
observed to airport facilities and property; including but not limited
to runways, taxiways, ramps, lights, signs, parking lots, roadways and
buildings.

Operates
computer controlled access and television systems.

Performs
radio and telephone dispatch duties.

Receives and
processes applications for airport security identification and access
media.

Wichita and Airport Authority reserve the right to assign additional
duties as needed.
Requirements of Work
-
Ability to
successfully complete a Police Academy Program that meets the
requirements of the Kansas law Enforcement Training Center.
-
Ability to
accurately and effectively discharge rifle, shotgun and handgun with
both the left and right hinds, and maintain annual firearms
proficiency certification as required by the Kansas Law Enforcement
Center.

Ability to
successfully complete initial, and recertification law enforcement
training programs.
-
Ability to
successfully complete initial, and recertification aircraft rescue and
firefighting (ARFF) and structural fire training programs.
-
Ability to
subdue a violent and/or uncooperative person by methods requiring
physical force.
-
Ability to
run distances up to 1.5 miles or uneven terrain.
-
Ability to
distinguish colors accurately during day or night conditions.
-
Visual acuity
that can be corrected to at least 20/20 in both eyes, and uncorrected
acuity at a level not to exceed 20/100 in either eye.

Ability to
hear with or without hearing enhancement devices at levels defined as
follows: Pure-tone thresholds no worse than 20db HL at 500Hz, 1000HZ,
2000Hz and 3000Hz.

Ability to
drag or carry up to 175 pounds up to 50 feet.
-
Ability to
lift and carry 125 pounds while walking up or down stairs; climb, run
jump and crawl while wearing a ten-pound fire suit with a 35 pound air
pack attached.

Ability to
safely and skillfully perform all police, fire and medical functions
for which trained, certified and required to perform, including the
operation and use of vehicles, weapons, systems, gear, tools and
apparatus.

Ability to
communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
-
Ability to
satisfactorily pass any physical or medical test or examination
reasonably related to work tasks.

An employee
shall not pose a direct threat to the health and/or safety of others
individuals in the work place.
