Here is the process to begin your exciting career!
Step 1 - Initial Online Application
Create an account through Human Resources to begin the application process. Complete the online application for Police Recruit and once it is submitted you will be allowed to self-schedule the written aptitude test. Contact City of Wichita Human Resources at (316) 268-4531 to schedule the test.

Step 2 - Aptitude Test
On your scheduled date, go to City of Wichita Human Resources, 455 N. Main, 2nd Floor, to take the test.
Step 3 - First Contact Questionnaire
After you have passed the aptitude test, complete the First Contact Questionnaire and submit the online form. Once submitted, the questionnaire will be assigned to a member of the Pre-employment Section and an initial background check will be performed.

Step 4 - Physical Fitness Test
Candidates who pass the initial background check will be contacted by a member of the pre-employment section to discuss the next stage of the process, the physical fitness test. Download the physical fitness packet and have it signed by a licensed medical professional, physician, chiropractor, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. This form must be signed by one of the listed titles before you will be allowed to participate in the test. To expedite your process, this should be done when you submit the First Contact Questionnaire.

Step 5 - First Contact Interview
Once you have passed the physical fitness test, you will be contacted to set up a first contact interview with a Pre-Employment Detective that is assigned your applicant file. You and your assigned Pre-Employment Detective will review your First Contact Questionnaire packet, which you should have completed under Step #3.
Step 6 - Oral Interview Board
A member of the pre-employment section will schedule your oral interview board. After successful completion of the oral interview board you will be placed on an eligibility list.

Step 7 - Polygraph Examination & Command Staff Interview
The next two steps include a
Polygraph Examination and, if selected, a
Command Staff Interview.
Step 8 - Medical Physical & Psychological Examination
Upon successful completion of the command staff interview, a conditional job offer will be given and the final stages,
Medical Physical and
Psychological Examination, will be scheduled.
