Officer Stacey Teague

What year did you start?

2003

What did you do previously before WPD?

I worked as a court clerk for the City of Wichita.

Why did you want to become a police officer?

I wanted to serve my community and make an impact any way I could. I was the single mother of two young boys at the time and wanted to be a good role model for them.

What do you like about being a police officer?

Being able to leave someone with a positive outlook on the law enforcement community. We sometimes see a citizen that has been involved in a traumatic event on what possibly may be one of the worst days of their lives. I like knowing that I can help them and show empathy for what they may be going through at that particular time. I can also leave them with a positive reminder that they can move forward and that it will get better.

How has your experience been as a female police officer?

This profession has shown me that I have the skills it takes and can do it just as well as anyone else. It has been really positive because of the acceptance of females in a profession that has typically been comprised of males.

Why should more females think about becoming a police officer?

Females can be great communicators, and they need to understand they have what it takes to make a career out of law enforcement. You can do anything you put your mind to. Have confidence and take that big step to an exciting and rewarding career!
