Mission Statement

Today, Wichita Police Chief Norman Williams discussed the state of community safety for 2011. During his annual briefing with the media Chief Williams discussed efforts to ensure the community’s safety and security, traffic related matters and the department’s 2012 emphasis.

The City of Wichita experienced an increase in some major crimes for 2011. Chief Williams provided the previous five-year statistics as well.   Chief Williams spoke about increases of crimes for homicide, specifically domestic violence, aggravated assaults and auto thefts.  “We have not reported that many domestic violence homicides since 2004,” said Williams.  He stressed the need for the community to report domestic violence as several homicide victims were previous victims of DV that went unreported.

Chief Williams stressed that the success of the Wichita Police Department was heavily influenced by the citizens that stepped forward to work with the Department on many crimes.
