Back to Basics: Navigating Your DSLR

This course will go over how to use your digital camera and learn the basic settings of your DSLR. How to download photos from your camera to the computer will also be discussed. Students will need to provide: DSLR, computer, USB and a SD card. Age 16+.

Creative Photography 101 

In this class we’ll go over the basic functions of your digital camera and we’ll discuss digital file formats (RAW vs JPEG), and we’ll touch upon aperture, ISO, shutter speed (aka the exposure triangle).

Landscape Photography

This is a session that is dedicated to those who enjoy landscape photography. Two main topics will be discussed: high dynamic range photography as well as panoramic photography.

Adobe Photoshop Basics

This demonstration class  will go over the basics of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Bridge. The emphasis will be about setting good workflow habits, and creating a reliable file management system. We will also cover the basics of picture editing and sequencing, image delivery, etc.

Critique

For this class, a small selection of your work will be looked at in a live critique setting by a panel of professional photographers. Please bring a flash drive with up to 5 images.


Creative Photography 201 

A Sense of Place: Urban Landscape

This will be a critique workshop based on pictures taken in a specific location. Photographers will submit 20 pictures from an outing (completed prior to attending class) for a live critique. Topics pertaining to editing and sequencing will be discussed.

Color v. Black and White

This discussion-based class will consider the various approaches of both color and black and white photography. Students will be asked to come to class with 5-7 of their favorite images that they feel strongly about.

Creative Photography 301

Advanced Lighting

Students will participate in a demonstration of a light painting technique to photograph products in a highly stylized way. The use of multiple layers in Photoshop, as well as layer masking and blending modes will be discussed.

Advanced Macro: Focus Stacking

Students will be required to shoot with a camera that allows for macro focusing. After shooting pictures at a variety of focal distances, students will "stack" the images in Photoshop. The technique is a common approach to many types of commercial photography.

Finding a Point of View

Finding a visual signature and creating a sense of authorship is a skill that comes with much practice. This class is about taking your photography to the next level. Students will submit work to be critiqued by a professional photographer.
