Child Care Licensing

Responsibilities

The Child Care Licensing staff evaluates, investigates, and educates Child Care facilities and providers in Licensed Day Care Homes, Group Licensed Day Care Homes, Child Care Centers, Preschools, and School Age Programs in Wichita, and throughout Sedgwick County. This program's responsibility is to ensure the local City of Wichita and Sedgwick County Ordinances, Kansas State Laws, and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) regulations are met so that all children are safe and healthy in out-of-home child care.

Child Care Licensing staff also investigates complaints of unregulated child care or complaints of unsafe or non-compliant conditions in regulated facilities. This program does not regulate Foster Care or other programs that operate 24 hours a day.
