Community Investments Plan 2015 - 2035

The State of Kansas requires cities and counties to have a comprehensive plan in order to authorize subdivision regulation and to guide public spending decisions on capital infrastructure and facility projects. The comprehensive plan is intended to provide long-term community vision and policy direction related to public investments that support future community growth, development, economic vitality and quality of life.

There is a long legacy of comprehensive planning in our community dating back to the 1920's. Wichita and Sedgwick County have had a joint comprehensive plan since the early 1960's. On November 19, 2015, the Wichita-Sedgwick County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission adopted the Community Investments Plan 2015-2035 as the new Comprehensive Plan for Wichita and Sedgwick County, replacing the Preparing for Change Comprehensive Plan adopted in 1993. The Wichita City Council and the Sedgwick County Board of County Commissioners subsequently approved this Plan on December 8, 2015 and January 20, 2016 respectively.

This Plan is intended to be reviewed and adjusted as necessary on an annual basis so that it will remain relevant and appropriate for our community. The Community Investments Plan 2015-2035 is available for viewing under Documents. Any amendments to the Plan will also be listed under Amendments.
