K-12 School Districts

​The City of Wichita is home to many of the best primary education schools in the state of Kansas.

Within the City of Wichita boundaries there are seven public school districts. Wichita Public Schools serves the largest portion of the city. Andover, Derby, Circle, Goddard, Maize and Haysville Public Schools, each serve a portion of Wichita. These districts tout average ACT and SAT scores that beat both the state and national averages.

In addition, the City has nearly twenty private and faith based schools that provide exceptional schooling.

Wichita Public Schools (Wichita)

The largest Kansas school district has been recognized nationally for student achievement in academics, sports, creative and performing arts, and career and technical education. As the largest school district by student enrollment in Kansas, WPS educates more than 47,000 students in more than 90 schools and programs. WPS also offers special programs to meet the needs of every learner, including back-to-basics, Montessori, International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement (AP), magnet programs and online learning. Wichita boasts a biotech academy and an advanced health sciences academy.

Haysville Unified School District (Haysville)

The Haysville Unified School District serves nearly 6,000 students in nine school facilities. The district has a 91% graduation rate and an average ACT score of 19. The district has a international baccalaureate programs and several specialty programs that students can choose from.

Derby Unified School District (Derby)

Derby Unified School District serves 7,500 students in 12 schools with a graduation rate of 93% and an average ACT score of 19. The district is the primary K-12 school that serves students from the McConnell US Air Force Base.

Maize Public Schools (Maize)

Maize Public Schools has more than 7,000 students with 40 schools with 10 located in Northwest Wichita. MAIZE is known for its competitive atmosphere and has received high marks from the Kansas Department of Education. MAIZE has a 95% graduation rate with an average ACT score of 22. MAIZE offers a unique program called Maize Connect which develops effective partnerships with families, businesses and the greater community to equip all students with skills they need to succeed.

MAIZE also offers the Career Cluster program which is a grouping of occupations and broad industries based on commonalities. The 16 Career Clusters organize academic and occupational knowledge and skills into a coherent course sequence and identify pathways from secondary schools to two- and four-year colleges, graduate schools, and the workplace. Students learn in school about what they can do in the future.

Goddard Unified School District (Goddard)

With over 5,500 students, Goddard covers a portion of southwest Wichita, Goddard Unified School District has 12 schools and has consistently received a top rating from Kansas Department of Education with a 92% graduation rate with an average ACT score of 22.

Andover Unified School District (Andover)

Andover Unified School District serves students in far east Wichita. ANDOVER is a growing district with more than 9,000 students and 12 schools. ANDOVER schools have earned labels of excellence from the Department of Education. With a graduation rate of 90% and average ACT of 24, Andover students are poised for success. Students can earn dual college credits on site with the award winning Andover Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) which has nine focus areas such a law, medical, aviation, and information technology.
