What does it mean for a case to be appealed?

Every case heard in the Municipal Court may be appealed by the defendant to district court for a new bench trial or jury trial. The appeal must be filed within 14 days of Sentencing in Municipal Court. Once a case is appealed, the case starts over. The district court judge is not bound by the sentence ordered in Municipal Court. If the appeal is dismissed, the case is remanded back to the Municipal Court for imposition of the original sentence.
