What is the Metropolitan Area Planning Department (MAPD)?

The Planning Department is made up of city and county staff. The Planning Department is a joint City and County Planning Department that works with citizens and community leaders to identify and plan for the preferred future of Wichita and unincorporated Sedgwick County; and works to help achieve that future. The Planning Department's role for implementation is largely accomplished through the coordination of a variety of land planning functions including zoning and subdivision. The Planning Department supports the Planning Commission.

The Planning Department is comprised of four divisions - Current Plans, Advanced Plans, Zoning Enforcement and Administration. You can find more information about the Planning Department in the Wichita and Sedgwick County budgets.
