We have a couple different types of incentives to encourage development in our formative neighborhoods:
Projects must be located within the Formative neighborhoods, as defined by the City’s Places for People Plan, within Wichita’s Established Central Areas. In the map below, these neighborhoods are shaded in red.
No. Projects must be located within a formative neighborhood within the City of Wichita’s Established Central Area. Projects outside of these areas will not be eligible for incentives.
The City Council approved the pilot program for a period of two years and landfill fee reimbursements are capped at a total of $400,000.
The program begins on October 3, 2022, and will expire on October 3, 2024. Fee reimbursements will end once $400K is expended or the two-year period ends, whichever comes first.
In order for the program to be continued beyond those terms, the Council will need to approve an extension past October 3, 2024.
All program participants must be current on the payment of all real estate taxes and outstanding special assessment taxes. Once you are up to date on your real estate taxes and outstanding specials, you will be eligible to take advantage of these incentives.
Yes. In the interest of public safety, all permits will continue to be required.
When you go to the Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department (MABCD) to pull your permit, if your project is taking place within the formative neighborhoods, fees will automatically be waived.
The Public Works and Utilities Department developed a reimbursement application (PDF) that will need to be completed by the applicant in order to have your fees reimbursed. A maximum of $5,000 per project can be reimbursed. Refunds will be processed on a first come first serve basis.
Only fees incurred between October 3, 2022 and October 3, 2024 will be reimbursed.
Landfill fees can only be reimbursed on an MABCD approved residential infill project within a formative neighborhood. As such, a project must have had permit fees fully or partially waived in order for landfill fees to be reimbursed.
Yes. Please wait until the project is complete to submit your reimbursement application.
