In January of 1964, President Lyndon Johnson declared a "War on Poverty" during his State of the Union Address. Out of this declaration the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 was born, and with it, Community Action. Today there are over 1,000 Community Action Agencies in the United States whose purpose is to help lift families out of poverty.

Community Action in the State of Kansas
The Wichita Sedgwick County Community Action Partnership (WSCCAP) serves as the local Community Action Program for Wichita and Sedgwick County. WSCCAP's focus is on assisting families achieve economic security through employment assistance and financial literacy. The program is open to low income families that reside in Wichita or Sedgwick County. To be eligible for these services, the applicant must fall within the income guidelines and provide proof of residency. Click here to view the 2020 Income guidelines.
