As the time change approaches on Sunday, March 14, the Wichita Fire Department wants to remind all residents to change their smoke detector batteries. Residents with 110 volt hard wire smoke detectors should also change the battery back up in those detectors.
Installing new smoke detector batteries at least once a year is one of the simplest, most effective ways to reduce tragic deaths and injuries. In fact, working smoke detectors cut the risk of dying in a home fire nearly in half.
The Wichita Fire Department also recommends that residents take time to plan and practice their escape routes with the entire family. Other Community Risk Reduction information can be obtained by calling the Fire Prevention Office at 268-4441.
