Williams Kicks Off 25th Annual Academy Award® Shorts Celebration
Roger Ross Williams, winner of this year’s Academy Award® for the documentary short “Music By Prudence,” will speak and show his film at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 18, at the Wichita Public Library, 223 S. Main. Admission is free.
Williams will be available for interviews with the media at 1:15 p.m., Sunday, April 18.
Williams made Academy Award® history as the first African-American director to win for direction in any category. His uplifting film follows Prudence Mabhena, a young musician in Zimbabwe born with severe physical challenges and struggled to overcome poverty and discrimination.
Williams’ appearance kicks off a year-long celebration of film culminating with the 25th Annual Academy Award® Shorts next spring. Other events in the series include the Wichita premiere of the critically acclaimed documentary “45365” by Bill and Turner Ross on Thursday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m.
Williams’ appearance is made possible with generous support from the Friends of the Wichita Public Library. For more information, visit the Wichita Public Library’s Web site.
