Contact: Communications Team |

Residents are invited to attend the unveiling of the draft Downtown Master Plan from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Scottish Rite, 332 E. 1st Street. Mayor Carl Brewer and members of the downtown planning team will be available for media interviews from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. and visuals and maps will be available for video photographers. A reception is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and will include light refreshments.

The draft Downtown Master Plan presentation, which will include public input, will share various strategies for developing downtown Wichita. The presentation will address achieving a vision and identifying resources for downtown development.

Organizers have also scheduled three downtown planning workshops on Wednesday at Bank of America Theatre, 100 N. Broadway. The workshops focus on “Enabling Development” (8 to 9:30 a.m.), “Creating Transportation Choices” (3:30 to 5:30 p.m.) and Creating Unique Places (5:30 to 7 p.m.).

Following tonight’s public meeting and the Wednesday workshop, the City of Wichita, Downtown Wichita Development Corporation and Visioneering Wichita will make presentations to groups throughout the community for additional public input. The Downtown Master Plan Team will incorporate the feedback and present the final plan Master Plan in September.

The Downtown Master Plan Team has been researching, analyzing the market, listening to the community and incorporating public feedback since November.

The Master Plan will provide a blueprint for downtown development. It will utilize economic research to maximize opportunity for private sector investment and return on investment of public dollars. Research shows thriving downtowns help regions retain and recruit people and businesses.

To schedule a presentation on the draft Master Plan, please contact Nancy Moore at the WDDC (264-6005) or Suzie Ahlstrand at Visioneering Wichita (268-1135).
