City of Wichita officials will hold a televised public meeting on the annual budget process and the Downtown Master Plan beginning at 6 p.m. today in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 455 N. Main. Residents and media members should arrive early to pass through security.
City Manager Robert Layton will open the meeting with a report on the 2011-12 Proposed Budget. His presentation will be followed by an update on the draft Downtown Master Plan.

The budget and master plan presentations will include a question-and-answer segment hosted by Layton, other top City administrators and downtown leaders, who will start the downtown presentation at 7:15 p.m. It will be hosted by Susie Ahlstrand of Visioneering Wichita and Scott Knebel of the Wichita-Sedgwick County Metropolitan Area Planning Department.
Tonight’s meeting follows several public meetings on the City’s annual budget process and downtown revitalization. The public meetings are part of the Wichita City Council’s goal to increase public engagement and transparency on municipal matters. The City Manager will release his 2011-12 Proposed Budget on July 13 and other public budget meetings are scheduled for July 20, Aug. 3 and Aug. 10, when the City Council is scheduled to formally adopt the budget.
