In response to Wednesday evening storm damage, beginning next week Public Works & Utilities crews will collect and dispose of tree limbs and branches in the area south of 31st Street South and east of Meridian, to the south and east City limits.
Residents with substantial tree damage outside of this area can call 268-4013 if they need City assistance with tree debris. A supervisor will assess these requests as time allows.
Crews will pick up only tree debris. They will not pick up roof, fence, patio furniture or other materials. Tree limbs must be cut into four-foot lengths and placed at the curb. Crews will not come onto private property to collect debris or take limbs longer than four feet.
Wednesday evening’s thunderstorm interrupted power to traffic signals in south Wichita, turned others out of alignment, snapped power lines to the sewage treatment plant at 52nd & Hydraulic and pelted City buildings, including the Wichita Mid-Continent Airport terminal, with hail.
During the storm, airport passengers and employees were sent to the terminal’s basement storm shelter. Overnight, airport staff vacuumed water from carpets and covered holes in the roof, ceilings and skylights in the concourse and ticket counter areas.
Auburn Hills and Tex Consolver golf courses are closed until further notice due to hail-pocked greens.
Public Works & Utilities crews are working this morning to clear streets of tree limbs and debris. Officials continue to assess damage to City facilities.
