Construction began today for improvements to Woodlawn from Farmview Lane to 17th Street, a $500,000 project that will add a center left turn lane and stormwater drainage upgrades.
The project, which will also lower a ridge where railroad tracks formerly crossed Woodlawn, is expected to be completed by December 10.
During construction, Woodlawn will be restricted to one lane in each direction. Access from 17th Street and Farmview to Woodlawn will sometimes be reduced to one lane.
Woodlawn between 13th and 17th Street carries approximately 20,000 vehicles a day.
“A lot of drivers turn at Farmview and 17th Street to access their neighborhoods to the east and west of Woodlawn,” says Jim Armour, City Engineer with the Public Works & Utilities Department. “This turning lane will make that a much safer maneuver.”
