Wichita City Manager Robert Layton announced today that he has appointed Donte Martin as Municipal Court Administrator. Martin, who has worked for the City of Wichita’s Municipal Court since 2005, was appointed interim Municipal Court Administrator in February. He then succeeded Kay Gales who retired after nine years as the court’s top administrator.

Layton praised Martin’s tenure as interim, highlighting his reorganization of the Municipal Court Clerk’s Office and his commitment to improving customer service.

“Donte has consistently demonstrated an innovative approach to Court administration,” Layton said. “His educational background and work experience uniquely qualifies him for the position of Municipal Court Administrator. I am excited about Donte’s permanent addition to the City’s management team.”

Martin will oversee a 6.6 million dollar operating budget and manage 83 employees. He will also direct the implementation of processes or strategic plans required to fulfill Municipal Court objectives.

During Martin’s Municipal Court tenure, Martin’s accomplishments include acquiring grant funding to develop a Mental Health Court and expanding the City’s Drug Court program. He has also implemented process improvements that enhanced department efficiency, as well as expanded the use of document imaging for record retention and file sharing.

Martin began working for City government as a Neighborhood Assistant in 2000. In 2005, he became Assistant to the Court Administrator. He graduated from the Washburn University School of Law and has a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice from Wichita State University.
