10-year-old ready for ride on Wichita fire truck today
Hannah Shaver was named a grand prize winner in the City of Wichita’s Letters to Santa project. Today the ten-year-old is redeeming her prize: a ride home from school in a Wichita fire truck. Firefighters will pick up Hannah at Maize South Elementary School this afternoon and take her home, 2115 N. Covington Circle. Media are invited to greet her when she arrives at home at 3:30 p.m.
Hannah’s Letter to Santa was one of 300 dropped off at CityArts, the Mid-America All-Indian Center and Old Cowtown Museum in December. She and 8-year-old Tori Koehn were each named grand prize winners. Tori won a photo shoot to model children’s fashion in Splurge! magazine.
Every child who dropped off a letter received a response from Santa as well as an automatic entry in the City’s gift giveaway. The project was the City’s way of spreading a little holiday cheer. Here is the list of the other winners and their prizes:
- Natalie Christoffer, age 5
CityArts Gift Pack: CityArts youth art class and Camera Angles sitting/8x10 portrait
- Tri Nguyen, age 8
Cowtown Gift Pack: Cowtown family membership and passes to a Music Theatre for Young People performance
- Jeff Coultis, age 10
Mid-America All-Indian Center Gift Pack: Indian Center family membership and bowling/go carts passes for The Alley Indoor Entertainment.
This was the first year the City of Wichita collected Letters to Santa. Due to the positive response, the project will be repeated in December. Hannah’s letter as well as a sampling of other children’s letters can be found at Wichita.gov, click “Arts & Culture.”
