Railroad work will close area
Twenty-first Street North, east of Broadway, will be closed from March 28 through April 3 for railroad crossing improvements.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) crews will rebuild the railroad crossing, which will require closing the street to both east and westbound traffic. Traffic on 21st Street will be rerouted using Broadway, 20th Street and Topeka.
When the railroad improvements are completed, paving and sidewalk upgrades will start. Traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction east of Broadway during the project. This work is expected to be completed and 21st Street reopened to traffic by mid May.
While BNSF crews work in the area, they may also perform repairs at the 25th and 33rd Street North crossings, east of Broadway.
